!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! not too far from me, and I’m trying to convince my coworker to at least go look at it.
I should probably preface this with the fact that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! which he swapped an M52 in and dailys an ex-work truck, which I call the work truck:
The work truck next to my E92 and another coworkers 4 series.
It’s a 2005 Silverado with ~215k on it, and it won’t maintain speed on the highways when traversing hills. So what could be a good replacement? This X5.
At $3200, it’s not a terrible price for a pretty uncommon X5, it looks like it’s got some cosmetic issues, but other than that looks pretty clean.

Best solution, co-worker goes to junkyard, buys cheap 4.8 or 5.3, swap into work truck. Then install a Chinese Choo Choo, and hills will no longer be a problem. All of this will be cheaper than maintaining that. Someone here once bought a manual X5, and that didn’t last long.

I’ve also been trying to convince him we could also boost the 4.3 in the work truck. I’ve got a TD04 lying around I told I’d give him.

I feel like a TD04 isn’t big enough. Needs more junkyard diesel turbo.

One isn’t, but two would be perfect.

If it’s just a daily truck I’d say keep driving it until it dies. That way you can save up some cash for a better daily and/or project car.

The problem with the 4.3 is that it doesn't like power. That would give you one rip up a hill, then RIP.

... if it wasn’t so far away and I didn’t already have too many projects, that is definitely “fuck it” money.

I’ve been in one of these as a passenger.
They’re clunky, and the manual is paired with engines underpowered for the bigly SUV. They feel more truck-like than you’d expect from a BMW.

i love my 6 speed 06 e53! That being said, this is an 01 5 speed, he will be looking for another gear... but otherwise it’s pretty much bulletproof.
